Turkey season has come upon us! Not many things can rival the sound of calling and hearing those big old toms gobble back at you. We had the pleasure this season of being able to hunt not far from the coast of Morrow Bay in California and were able to bag a few gobblers to bring home to the fam. This recipe is a play on the good old chicken piccata recipe that’s super quick, easy, and doesn’t disappoint. If you’ve never had piccata, well, you’re in for a treat because when you pour the sauce over the top everyone will think you’re a five-star chef. I spiced this one up with some jalapeños and wild turkey but feel free to use any pepper or bourbon; you can also omit the peppers and just use white wine if you’d like to go the classic route. Any way you slice it, you’re bound to love this dish.
The first hurdle in any successful hunting venture is to find a way to stay hidden from your target game, without inhibiting your ability to make your mark. FirstSpear’s has innovated this obstacle through a new, collaborative project with Treadswift to bring you the LWAG.
One of the best parts of fishing is that you can do it throughout your entire life. Fishing doesn’t have as high of an impact on your body as some other outdoor activities, like hiking or hunting, meaning most people can keep on angling well into retirement. To ensure you can keep on fishing throughout your life, it can be useful to have a lifetime fishing license—no one wants the hassle of having to maintain licenses or pay yearly fees. Fortunately, there are many states that offer lifetime fishing licenses for kids, adults, seniors, and veterans, allowing you to spend less time messing around with menial paperwork. We found which states had the most anglers searching for lifetime license opportunities and listed all the available deals of a lifetime.
Here I am, on my way to Northern Vancouver Island, to search for black bears. I love to hunt bears because of the challenges that hunting them brings, and the season is an indicator that a new hunting year has begun. This year I decided that I was going to try hunting an unfamiliar area. It can be very easy to get complacent in hunting the same locations over and over again, especially if you have had success. You learn all the trails, every rise, hill, and every nuance of the area. What if something changes in your area? Perhaps your area gets logged, or if it is private land, maybe it gets sold and you no longer have permission to hunt. There are any number of factors why you may need to look for a new location, but for me it is just time for a new adventure.

Barbecue season is in full swing, this is a perfect recipe to turn that big game roast you just found in the bottom of your freezer into some delicious BBQ sandwiches. This recipe is very simple but does require brining the roast for 2-3 days before placing it in the smoker. After smoking, I like to cut the roast into thin slices and pile the meat on a brioche bun with some fresh homemade pickles and a light drizzle of good BBQ sauce.
