Rarest Goldfish Caught in Virginia

Goldfish are not a native species to Virginia and are prohibited from being introduced into bodies of water in the state. That did not stop Jeremy Fortner of Chesterfield, Virginia from catching a ‘trophy fish’ in Hunting Creek, a tributary of the Potomac River. His goldfish catch, recorded at a massive three pounds, 9 ounces, earning it the title Virginia Archery State Record Goldfish. As the state is only home to goldfish that are most likely discarded as pets, Virginia only recently added the goldfish state record program as of 2020 with Fortner’s fish being the first submission for official recognition.
